Identity service provider checks

Using a certified company to check British and Irish passports digitally.

What is an identity service provider?

An identity service provider (IDSP) is a company certified by the government to check identity documents digitally, usually through a phone app. For right-to-work checks they can be used for British and Irish citizens with a valid passport (including an Irish passport card).

How to use one

  1. Choose a certified provider. The government keeps a list of certified providers on GOV.UK. Providers usually charge a fee for each check.
  2. Send the person through their check. The provider tells you the result and gives you a report.
  3. Make sure it's them. You still need to check that the person in front of you matches the photo.
  4. Record it in RotaProof. Choose Certified identity service provider (IDSP), describe it (for example “British passport via IDSP”), and upload the provider's report.
RotaProof isn't connected to any identity service provider yet, so you'll need to upload the report yourself.

This guide explains how to use RotaProof. It isn't legal advice. For the rules themselves, the Home Office's employer's guide to right to work checks is the final word.
