Rechecks when permission runs out
Why people with time-limited permission need checking again, and how RotaProof reminds you.
Who needs a recheck?
Anyone whose permission to work has an end date, such as people on a visa or with pre-settled status. To stay protected, you need to check them again before their permission ends.
How RotaProof reminds you
| When | What you'll see |
|---|---|
| 60 days before the end date | They appear on your to-do list with a Record follow-up check button. |
| 4 weeks before | Their status changes to Recheck due soon. |
| After the end date | Their status changes to Permission ran out. |
This only works if you entered the end date when you recorded their check. RotaProof won't let you save time-limited permission without one.
Doing the recheck
- Click Record follow-up check on your to-do list, or Record a check on their page.
- Check them again, usually with an online check using a new share code.
- Save it as a new check with the new end date, if there is one. The newest check is the one that counts.
If someone can't show they still have the right to work, get advice straight away, before they do any more work for you.
This guide explains how to use RotaProof. It isn't legal advice. For the rules themselves, the Home Office's employer's guide to right to work checks is the final word.
